I BELIEVE IN MAGIC
“I often feel that each album is simply something I birth into this world, rather than something I am responsible for creating. I never know when I will hear the next call, but I just know to be ready when it comes.”
M ichiko is a Sydney-born, London-based singer, songwriter and producer whose style is described as a fusion of electronica, dance and downtempo with smooth and soulful vocals. Influenced by artists such as Sade, Astrud Gilberto, Miguel Migs and often compared to Samantha James and Blue Six.
Born to German and Japanese parents, Michiko’s musical journey began at the age of 6 with piano lessons, followed by vocal training from the age of 16. She began recording her own compositions out of frustration at the lack of music she could identify with on the radio and being somewhat of a geek, she developed a love for electronic production techniques. Following her university graduation Michiko moved to Germany and trained in Sound Recording and Jazz singing before relocating to London.
Michiko’s debut album Daydreamer was recorded in a humble basement bedroom in West London and released independently in 2006. Not expecting much of a reaction to the release, Michiko’s single Stuck On You gained the attention of many listeners, as well as that of Lemongrassmusic, under whose label Michiko’s follow up album No Place Like Home was released in 2010.
S implicity has become the trademark of Michiko’s recordings. Still created entirely at home, whereever that happens to be at the time, her albums evoke authenticity over sophistication. For this reason Michiko continues to publish her own albums.
The next album is due to be released in 2019.
To everyone who has sent encouraging messages since the last album, I just want to let you know that I am indeed working on the next album with the aim to release it in 2019. I often feel that I don't really create my music all, and that I am just birthing each album...
I have always been creative and have been expressing myself through various media since I was a child. Having a great imagination is one thing, but I think anyone will attest to the fact that creativity seems indefinable. In my most productive days I lose track of all...
I read all my messages personally and I’d love to hear from you.
Whether you would like to enquire about licensing or simply say hello, please drop me a line and I will get try and back to you as soon as I can.
